Retention

When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. You will have the opportunity to choose the type of retainer that is best suited for you.

The positioner is the ultimate retainer. It is worn at night while you sleep and helps to settle the teeth and temporomandibular joint into ideal positions. It looks very similar to a boxer’s mouthpiece. If you have allergies or breathe through your mouth at night, the positioner can be difficult to wear.

The retention phase lasts for a minimum of 24 months. Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far. Remember to remove your retainer before brushing, and brush your retainer before placing it back in your mouth.
